↳This garden bouquet of cuttings from our yard. The previous tenants of our house have planted so many varieties of plants. At any given moment, something is in bloom, all the foliage patiently taking it's turn to blossom. I love various textures and heights in a bouquet; for this one, I particularly love the soft ferns that creep out from under the house.
↳This orange and olive oil cake. I was reading my newest issue of Food and Wine and came across an article on Crete and "ancient brunch." The recipe makes the most of ingredients, like olive oil, that are plentiful in that region. As soon as I read the article, I headed to the grocery store for a bag of oranges to juice. The cake is the perfect texture and absolutely delicious. Easily one of my new favorite cake recipes, something I can imagine eating every Christmas Eve.
↳This morning light. Slow Saturday mornings are my favorite, and Sunday morning runs have quickly become a favorite as well. There's no traffic noise on Sunday mornings, there's fellow runners and neighbors walking their dogs, and sometimes I'll catch a breeze off the lake.
↳These paws. I love coming into the living room to find Mordechai on the couch, on his back, legs in the air. He can sprawl out and take up 3/4's of the couch, or he can curl up really small, laying his head on my feet at the end of the bed. He really is the sweetest comfort these days.

ReplyDeletethey are called bougainvilleas! i see them a lot in our neighborhood and of course they are all blooming at the same time! it's a treat :) as for m, he is getting more and more comfortable with us every month! we've had to build trust since he didn't know how to make relationships with humans before us, so with every week of more companionship, i am so proud of him! i can't believe it's almost been a year, and my how far he's come.

DeleteWhat a lovely concept. My week in objects. Just this morning I was reminded of that beloved quote from William Morris. "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." I've had that on a slip of paper creeping around various (unbeautiful) junk drawers and desktops since college. I'm all about minimizing, but our objects give our life meaning.

i love that quote! being that i love to go antiquing, that quote has helped keep me from becoming a hoarder, and also let's me indulge in objects that i really do find beautiful.
