Kyoto's Wooden Temple Nestled in the Mountains

Some days in Kyoto we visited as many as three temples in one morning. On our last morning in Kyoto, we biked up a mountain to Kiyomizu-dera temple. Nestled in the red and orange trees was a wooden pavilion. In the distance you can see the small city of Kyoto. But among the trees it was so peaceful, so zen. Just outside of this wooden temple was a fountain with three waterfalls, each one for a different stroke of good luck.

Inside the temple was a statue of Kannon with eleven faces and a thousand arms. Seeing the various statues of Kannon throughout the temples of Kyoto was one of my favorite things. We visited another temple called Sanjūsangen-dō, but unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos there. Inside a long pavilion was one large, gold Kannon statue in the middle, flanked on each side by 100 more Kannon statues. It was a gorgeous sight to see. You can click here for a photo of it's beauty.
