Recently we went to the farmer's market and picked up something we've never had before: duck egg. We decided that this was the perfect opportunity to make our favorite pizza at home. A pizza with an egg in the middle.

We'll still end up going to our favorite restaurant because they are able to get the egg cooked to perfection. Timing is everything, especially with something as delicate as an egg in an oven hotter than 450 degrees. We've tried this pizza a couple of times now and haven't mastered the egg and cooking time.

Everyone should know about the explosions in Boston by now. It took me until today to post about it because things like this really eat at the core of my being. When the topic is brought up or I see a Facebook status about praying for Boston, I don't feel hope, I feel immense sorrow. So much sorrow that I feel like it is flooding out of my pores. What haunts me is not why, but how? I could never imagine having such deep hatred that I would resort to hurting other people. And at the very same time, I am constantly losing faith in humanity when people do things like this. There are so many hateful people in the world, and yet, I could never imagine wanting to harm any of them...
Whoa, what a neat way to eat pizza! I will definitely have to try that! I feel like I never put my input out there on topics like the Boston event because no words can properly express it. There are some awful people in the world, but after my cross country trip I actually do feel renewed in my feelings about humanity and the sense of community that DOES exist in this world. Of course it is terrible what happened, but I guess I've done a lot of thinking on how you let events affect your perspective. (And this is why I don't talk about touchy things, because I tend to ramble on and not make any points! Ha)
ReplyDeleteyour pizza looks beautiful - i'm so curious about the duck egg - did it taste any different?

Hi Chelsea! I couldn't find your email address to reply!
DeleteIt didn't taste much different but it did feel denser and the yolk was much larger! It was quite delicious and tasted nutritious!
This looks absolutely delicious and the photos are beautiful. Thanks for sharing this bright spot amid the darkness of the week. All my best, Alice @ The Owl's Skull

I can't believe I didn't know you have a blog! This looks wonderful. Have you been to Armando's in Winter Park? They have a great pizza with sauteed mushrooms and over easy eggs.
ReplyDeletei share your sentiment. it's too troubling and i just can't imagine how/why anyone would think to harm innocent people especially with little children present. not that it should happen to adults/animals/anyone! but i think if i was that crazed at least the sight of a child might give me pause. so sad.
ReplyDeletenow on to the pizza. i hear people rave about egg on pizza all the time, i haven't been brave enough to try it yet. it looks so good but i am not much of a yoke girl so i think that's where i loose my will.
OMG looks delicious! Seriously, my mouth is watering just looking at these pictures!

I'm exceedingly pleased we've started putting salt on desserts and eggs on things like burgers and pizzas. This is a good move on the part of our culinary world, haha. On another night, I'm really saddened by the state of the world right now, too. It's sad when a poisoned letter sent to a senator and our president is buried underneath other atrocious news stories, you know? :(
ReplyDeleteummm, YUM... can I come over?

ReplyDeleteOn the pizza: looks amazing and I'm really curious- what DOES duck egg taste like???
ReplyDeleteOn Boston: I feel the same as you as far as not understanding how someone could have so much blind hatred and disregard for human life. But, I do feel hope and faith in how everyone is coming together in support of the victims/Boston/the US.
just catching up on your blog and this looks delicious #arugalaonpizzealways
