This past weekend we explored our own town a little bit and discovered a new coffee shop to venture to, Downtown Credo. The first characteristic about this coffee shop that I noticed was the fact that the menu had "suggested donations", not "prices". It could be a completely new thing, or just new to me, but I found it so interesting that this shop chose to let the customer pick how much they wanted to pay.
Besides the price, this coffee shop had the makings for our favorite kind of atmosphere like local art on the walls, vintage and thrifted finds, mismatched furniture, and market lights. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday morning, and it's definitely a place I could see myself bring my laptop for when I get a bit stir crazy to blog or do some assignments.
Not to mention, the coffee was good. I had a standard coffee, while S satisfied his sweet tooth with a mocha cappuccino. I can always appreciate a place that does foam art because it's such a nice touch, as if it was made with more love and dedication.
It's always exciting when you think you know a town so well and you find a part of it that is new and different, a bit of a hidden gem. I think I will definitely be frequenting this place for a nice change of pace.

What a cute coffee shop! I've never heard of a donations only cafe, or any store that does that actually. So unique! Have you ever visited Sleeping Moon Cafe? That was one of my fave afternoon dates while I was at UCF.
ReplyDeleteThat cafe looks so sweet! I really love the black ceiling; black accents are really piquing my interest lately, too bad I'd never be able to convince my boyfriend on it! I'm just going to have to swank up my home studio with a black wall some day. I too love foam art, though I tend not to get it at the cafes in my town. I have decided when I have a milk steamer of my own, I am going to learn how to make a simple design or two, home barista style.

definitely a cool concept--giving power to the consumer to set their price. i wonder how that balances out for them? would love to see this spread into artisan markets, as i feel a lot of artists don't allow themselves to be compensated enough for their work, or sometimes you just want someone to have what they love without realizing you are out of their price range---though i'm also sure it would get abused a lot too. glad you found a lovely spot, a good coffee shop to pitter around in can be priceless.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a coffee drinker, but I can certainly see myself settling down in that cafe with a good book and a nice cup of tea! I adore the idea of "suggested donations" but it's not like people are going to go in and not pay anything (at least I hope not!). xo

ReplyDeleteHmm. The donation thing is so odd to me, as I feel like it lessens the value that people put into their craft. While I would hope most people would pay for what they feel their drink is worth, I'm afraid the majority of people would use it as an excuse to underpay. Maybe I don't have enough faith in people?

I love finding new places in an area you think you know really well. I love suggested donations as well, it is a lovely way of making somewhere a bit more accessible, although I'd be interested to know how well it works xo

ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a lovely place to visit. I had a secret coffee shop I used to slink too on the sly to write my assignments in. I never used to tell anyone about it (I know, I should be most supportive of indie businesses) but I never wanted to share it, but sadly (or gladly I suppose for them) it got found, so there is never any tables or silence left for me to bask in!
