My favorite thing to do on weekends is to take full advantage of my town. We have the best community and there are always free events going on, especially this time of the year! The photo above is a photo I took while walking down the brick roads of our little downtown area. There are so many restaurants and shops and energy! Recently, there was an antique car show.
This was one of the first times that I had my camera with me out in public and there were others there with their DSLRs too! Usually, it's me with my bulky camera, setting aperture and shutter speed slowly, while people are hurridly snapping away on their iPhones. This time, it was as if there were a clan of us with DSLRs to take photos for this community event. All of us crouching and clicking, trying to get the best shot.
In case you couldn't tell, I was taking photos mostly of the "cute" cars. The pastel colored ones with the funny headlights. I'm not really into cars, however my brother is! So I thought it would be nice to snap a few shots of this community event and share them with him later since he couldn't come to town for this weekend.
Also, a rare shot of me in front of my new camera instead of behind it. I saw this lovely vertical succulent plant outside on a random wall of a restaurant and had to have a photo with it. Plus, purple and green: my wedding colors!
This particular day, I made a special trip to our downtown-bricks for a particular item; I was on the hunt for poppy seeds. Now, what could I be using poppy seeds for? Well a lemon poppy seed bread of course!
I've always adored this particular shop: it's where I get my lavender buds for lavender tea and lavender cupcakes. My dear friend that is editor in chief of a magazine showed me what lavender cupcakes are all about and ever since, I've had to keep my lavender bud supply in stock for when the craving behooves me.
Of course, after I picked up my poppy seeds, I had to ask the shop owner if I could snap a few photos because all of her jars, all of her wares, all of her varietals were just gorgeous!
The recipe that I made was from the Joy of Baking, and no, you won't be seeing any photos of my lemon poppy seed bread because her recipe was so delicious, it was gone in 24 hours. It was a busy 24 hours so I didn't even have the chance to snap a shot.
And, as you can see, the beloved lavender buds nestled between the lemongrass and green bell pepper. Every thing is sold by the ounce, to take home in delightful little bags.
Beautiful pictures! Your town reminds me of my hometown!

You're town is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLet's hear more about this lavender! I've never used it before.
Yelle, you look awesome! And those infinite spice jars...
ReplyDeleteyour little town looks so sweet! where is it at (n, s, e, w)? for whatever reason (not that i have been) but it's just so different than i imagine florida. i want to go to that spice shop!! i actually have a thing for older cars, i am sure if i were to become a muti-millionaire i would end up owning a couple. i think it's the vintage element and the just the whole nostalgia of them. so pretty pretty, love that photo! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your shirt (dress?) in the succulent photo! I need to restock my spices and herbs... must find a shop like this!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! ...and I particularly enjoyed the photo of you and the vertical plant showcase, too cute!
ReplyDeleteSo many cool cars and I love those spices! I always try to take my camera everywhere. Sometimes, I'm a bit self-conscious, but once I start snapping pics I get really focused and tune all that out. Usually when I'm done, I stop and look up and suddenly realize that people were watching me. Then I get embarrassed and walk away. Haha. Also, though, I have to say that it always amazes me that anyone would take notice of me and my camera in a city that constantly has as many tourists as DC! You'd think I'd blend in. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Those cars are awesome. I would die to visit a spice shop like that! :) ♥Lindsay
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment! Seems like a fun town. (I know my town hardly ever does anything awesome, and if they try, it never turns out well. Ha!) Love your blog and your hair. Just started following. Follow back?

Great photos! I made vanilla bean cupcakes with a lavender cream once. I mistakenly used 3 T instead of 3 tsp of lavender to steep in the cream, but it was a good mistake!
