Christmas Markets: Savannah, GA

Savannah, GA

On our road trip to the north Georgia mountains, we stopped overnight in Savannah each way to break up the drive and reduce time in the car for both girls. It was a nice excuse to visit the historic town that we haven't been to since 2014 for my birthday.

Our favorite things to do in Savannah are to walk through the various squares, visit the shops (especially antique shops), enjoy the architecture, walk through Forsyth Park, and this time we got to visit the riverside and check out their Christmas market.

We visited the small Christmas market walked along the river with warm gluhwein. Small because, honestly, all of these markets feel small compared to the incredible Christkindlmarket in Chicago. We bought some classic Byrds cookies (Georgia peach cookies that melt in your mouth), and stopped at a little outdoor vendor for pretzels and sausages.

On the way back to Florida, our main objective was to enjoy Leopold's ice cream. It's an old ice cream shop . SCAD is right across the street, and they must have been filming something on the block because Leopold's, the theatre next to it, and the two shops on the other side were all decked out with vintage posters and appliances and fashion. There were old cars parked on the street, and signage on the theatre marquee that read "Closed for Launch. Good Luck Apollo II". 🚀
